Consultation for Sun Wharf on Creekside

Proposals for the redevelopment of Sun Wharf on Creekside are going on show next week at the Creekside Centre and the Laban Centre.

As Crosswhatfields reports, this is much earlier than was predicted, with the main occupier of the site, Jones Hire holding a lease until 2022. Maybe they were given an offer they could not refuse, to vacate the site early and make way for the redevelopment.

The site also encompasses the Deptford home of Cockpit Arts, which according to the flyer, will be relocated into a 'purpose-built facility. Given the density of development that's shown on the flyer, it could be difficult to replicate the conditions they currently enjoy, in particular in terms of natural light.

And Crosswhatfields also asks what is going to happen to the Love Over Gold mural which decorates the wall that faces onto Creekside?

All good questions which you can put to the developers at the Creekside Centre on Wed 24th Feb from 3.30pm to 7.30pm and at the Laban Centre on Sat 27th Feb from 11.30am to 3pm.

There can be no possible reason why they don't build around the current Cockpit building other than that it might reflect negatively on their profits - CA is a building well worth saving and couldn't be easily replaced.

When Ian Dubber, the Factotum from Workspace tasked with delivering the current development at Faircharm came up against resistance from Creekside Artists, he promised them they could return to a purpose built space within the new building and pay the same rent.
So Creekside Artists duly rolled over and backed him. Needless to say all the other tenants were scattered to the four winds

Now, does anyone want to take a bet on whether or not that space will actually materialise? And if it does will it be anything like the one promised?

Cockpit Arts don't stand a chance.

More construction around Creek area - demolition and a new 9 story 40 bed tower will shortly go to planning for 161 Creek Road.

The area improves with every new build that goes up

The development for 161 Creek Road is ridiculous. 40 dwellings and 7 parking spaces of which 4 will be for disabled residents. Hyde Housing Association should be made to provide enough parking on this tiny plot given that the adjacent streets have no public parking.

161 Creekside is crazy, a few homes on that site would be good, its a bit run down but a nine storey development is over the top and makes the massing of the areas very out of place. I would have though some of the residents behind it would not be keen on it either.

With all the development are there going to be any new schools or doctors in the area? What are the council doing with there CIL payments? anyone know?
None of the development seem to have services associated with them. all are green light on there own merits but nothing looks at the entirety of development. Traffic is a concern down there too!
